A Birmingham radio presenter is embarking on a dramatic weight loss programme as he sheds the pounds and raises pounds to help support a young boy with an inoperable brain tumour.
Earlier this year, Darren Yates, aged 35, was set a surprise cheeky challenge during his Saturday mid-morning show on 89.1FM Big City Radio.
He explains: "I received a phone call from one of my listeners in Australia who heard me chuntering on about my failed diet attempts, and decided to set me a cheeky challenge live on air to get down to a healthier 10 Stone 10 Pounds by 10-10-10".
The cheeky presenter has now climbed aboard the Cambridge Weight Plan (formerly known as The Cambridge Diet). He aims to lose the weight to help raise lots of pounds for ten-year-old Harry Moseley from Birmingham.
Harry has an inoperable brain tumour, but still finds the courage to raise thousands of pounds for other sick children by making and selling bead bracelets. All money he raises gets donated to Brain Tumour UK which is dedicated to improving life for adults and children touched by brain tumours, and to establishing the causes of and finding a cure for the disease. It funds a programme of research, support, education and awareness.
Darren said: "Harry is a remarkable young man, and I am proud to be losing a few pounds in weight to support Brain Tumour UK".
"The Cambridge Weight Plan Consultants are supporting me all the way, and I have already lost one stone in just a few weeks - that's despite a few naughty slip ups.
"It's amazing though, I am now starting to see the scales move in the right direction, but the toughest part is drinking three litres of water every day".
Big City Radio listeners are following Darren’s weekly progress, together with television personality Christine Hamilton, who said: "Brilliant Stuff Darren – all power to your willpower – you can do it - attaboy!"
You can listen to Darren’s progress every Saturday, between 10am and 2pm, on 89.1FM Big City Radio, which also streams across the world through the internet - www.bigcityradio.org.uk
